Lieutenant Walter Melon is a recurring character in the ABC series, High Potential. He is portrayed by Garret Dillahunt.

Melon is a bit of a jerk who heads up the Robbery-Homicide Division of the LAPD precinct, but he’d much rather be running Major Crimes. He believes he was unfairly passed over in favor of Selena and finds every opportunity to remind her.

Season 1[]

In "One of Us",  two military soldiers, Brook Kirkman and Jeremy Davis take over the police station with Detective Melon inside with the others. He volunteers to be the best detective in the station. No one dares to speak up against him. He has to make a phone call to Selena telling her that they must find a way to prove an innocent military suspect, Logan Hanson is innocent before he goes to prison for life for the murder of Frank Webber or everyone will die. Detective Melon looks over the case and cannot find anything wrong. Jeremy begins to get angry.

Later on Detective Melon makes a plan with Tom, the janitor, to take down the soldiers. He tries and there is a struggle and Tom gets his leg shot. Melon is seen covered in his blood. Detective Melon is handcuffed as Tom's bleeding is stopped by Morgan and Daphne. Detective Melon reminds them if Tom dies, they will be put away for first degree murder. Jeremy is angry and out of control. In the end, Morgan solves the case and all are safe. In return, Morgan gets a desk. Detective Melon agrees to stop calling her the cleaning lady as he welcomes her to the team.

In "The Sauna at the End of the Stairs", Detective Melon and Selana were on a case together as rookies. He is satisfied the case is done and closed once the grandfather confesses. He finds out they are opening up the case and tells the boss. They go together to tell Selena and her crew to stop working on the case. Turns out Morgan solved the case and he was wrong, the son did it.
