Ava Sinquerra is a main character in the ABC series, High Potential. She is portrayed by Amirah J.
Ava is Morgan's teenaged daughter, who may seem like the typical, moody teenager with a rebellious streak, but she’s driving through adolescence and trying to find her place in her own family. Her father Roman disappeared 15 years ago.
Biography[]
Ava is the first born child of Morgan Gillory, and the only child of Roman Sinquerra. Morgan, Roman, and Ava were a happy family for a few years, though Roman disappeared when Ava was still a toddler. She has little-to-no memory of her father, and despite Morgan's insistence to the contrary, believes Roman abandoned them. A few years later, Ava became an older sister to Elliot and Chloe, Morgan's children from her new marriage to Ludo Radovic. Morgan and Ludo eventually divorced, but he stayed in the lives of all three children.
High Potential[]
Season 1[]
In "Dancers in the Dark", Ava brought home a cat art project. Impressed, Morgan takes her daughter to the garage to show pictures of her father's artwork all over buildings. Morgan told Ava that she inherited her father's talents. She also told Ava that her father did not walk out on her and that the LAPD is restarting the investigation of his disappearance. Ava isn't impressed and said to have them work on getting their car back instead. Ava overhears Selena tell her mom that her father's car was found shortly after he disappeared. It was taken into police custody and inside was a pack of diapers suggesting her father did not leave but instead someone else was probably involved. This revelation brings Ava to tears.
In episode "Dirty Rotten Scoundrel", Ava had her boyfriend over and was given permission to have him over as long as they close the door when the music got too loud. Morgan didn't think it was ok and told Elliot to bug them so nothing could happen.
In episode "Survival Mode", Morgan gives Ava a big hug and holds her a little too close so Ava asks if she is ok. Then she sees Morgan going to kiss Elliot a lot and shakes her head.
In "Croaked", Ava is seen by Morgan taking a sip of orange juice. Morgan asks her why she took it and what she took with it. Ava denies taking anything. Convinced Ava is lying, Morgan snoops in her room and finds her birth control pills. Ava catches her in her room and she lies pretending to be talking to her ex-husband about putting a swing chair into Ava's room. Ava is excited to hear that. Morgan takes her along with her brother and sister to the beach promising them tacos. Not convinced they are getting tacos, Ava steals Karadec's fries from his date. Later on, Morgan comes into Ava's room after work and tucks her into bed staring at her. The next morning, Morgan brings her a breakfast drink and Ava said she could get used to it. Morgan then confesses to snooping in Ava's room and finding her pills. Ava isn't really mad and Morgan apologizes saying she shouldn't have and should have trusted Ava but she didn't and now she feels bad. Ava not knowing what her mom was thinking went on to explain how her friend was having acne problems so took the pills. Morgan is relieved asking if that is really why she is taking the pills. Ava lies and said she is having sex but she went online and got the pills for her acne. Then she laughs saying that her mom is so easy. Morgan relieved laughs and threatens playfully to beat Ava with her own birth control pills.
In "One of Us", she is seen playing a war game with her family. She wins even against the two smart players Elliot and her mother. She wins a 'yes' day from her mother so she made up a pretty itinerary for the day. Ava has the whole day planned including getting a free makeover at a place called Saks. Ava sees a dog and gets excited going off to pet him then declares happily she wants them to get a dog. Her mom says no. After a tour, Ava asks where her mom's desk is but her mom doesn't have a desk as she floats around helping everyone. Ava sarcastically says, "Because you are so smart everyone needs your help" before disappearing into the bathroom. While she's in the bathroom, she gets a text from her mom saying that she needs to get out of the building now. Ava goes to leave but hears gun shots and stops. Ava doesn't evacuate and instead sneaks around the place. She barely misses the gunman taking Detective Melon into a room but she does.
Ava avoids the gunmen for a while until he spots her outside the room. Ava was found sneaking around and gets brought into the room. Morgan rushes over to hug Ava and when the gunmen get upset, Tom steps up saying that they have bigger things to worry about than a mother hugging her daughter. Even after they sit down with the others, Morgan can't stop hugging Ava. Ava apologizes saying she tried to do what her mother asked but she couldn't leave her. Morgan promises nothing will happen to her. Ava does great. Later on when Morgan is released, Ava runs to her giving her a big hug. Morgan gives her back the itinerary promising a rain check to which Ava agrees.
In "The RAMS", at home, Morgan went through Roman's stuff then asked Ava if she took some of his stuff saying she shouldn't have to sneak around to do that. Then Ava confessed that she heard that conversation about Roman having diapers in the car, letting Morgan know she no longer believes Roman left them.
In "Chutes and Murders", Ava is over at home with her boyfriend and ignores her brother's request for a gift idea. She has changed her texts to say a certain sound when it's him despite Morgan not believing her. Morgan takes her two kids Ava and Elliot to the park telling them to go play. Elliot looks sad as Ava doesn't even pause from her phone. Morgan asks him why he doesn't look happy and he said it was because he and Ava used to play. She used to make him puke on the spinner which was fun but now they are two different people. Ava surprised everyone. She offered to spin Elliot on the spinner. He's having so much fun, suddenly she gets a noise on her phone. She looks down but instead of answering it, she turns it off and keeps spinning him and Morgan watches as both are laughing.
Personality[]
Ava is an angsty, emotional teenager who is struggling to sort through her feelings and the events of her life. She is rebellious and has an inferiority complex toward her younger brother because he inherited his mother's high potential intellect. She often feels left out because of their brainy ways, feeling like an outside in her own home and family. She inherited her mother rebellious nature and lack of boundaries, which often leads to friction between them.
Ava has shown to have inherited Roman’s artistic skills, being a very talented artist. According to Morgan in "Let's Play", Ava and the former are more alike than she thinks, with Ava inheriting Morgan's impulsive and often reckless behavior. This worries Morgan so she asks her colleagues to pull Ava over once she gets her drivers license.
